Who is lovelier? Looking at the two girls, it is obvious whom most would choose.

The first choice being described as perfect, gorgeous, princess like, beautiful; Perfectly tousled, long, blonde hair. Sparkling blue eyes framed by perfect make up. Skin like porcelain, with no blemish in sight. Features that were both dainty and regal, that were placed perfectly across her face. She was skinny, of course, flat as a board. Dressed from head to toe in clothes that clung and draped in the perfect places; designer name, only the best. Obviously a daughter of Aphrodite.

The latter choice was not so fortunate. Most would describe her as obese, ugly, Greasy hair, chopped crudely into a sort of bob. Dark eyes framed by dark circles. Skin not so clear, red and blotchy and acne ridden. Her wrists and thighs covered in lines of small white scars. A face that looked like maybe someone took a minute off arranging it correctly. She is a large girl, yes. Her clothes were either baggy to hide herself or too tight so they clung to all the wrong places, and they looked cheap. A daughter of... who knows? Who cares?

On the outside, the choice is clear. The beautiful daughter of Aphrodite outshines the latter like a diamond and a chunk of stone. If you look on the inside however...

The outcome will still probably be the same. The daughter of Aphrodite is a lovely girl inside and out, by society's standards at least. She is polite and kind and friendly. The other is antisocial and closed off. She is self conscious and unconfident and shy. She is depressed, suicidal and wants to be anywhere but here. Not to say that she isn't kind, but the opportunity has never been given.

It's a shame, really. The two girls go by their entire lives without knowing a single fact about each other, except maybe their names. They could help each other, open each other's understanding. The daughter of Aphrodite could learn about broadening her horizons, realizing that people who don't have manicures 24/7 could have the same interests as her. The other could learn to open up, to trust others. Learn that just because you don't have the same problems, doesn't mean you couldn't be friends.

But the two girls never meet. There are too many differences between the two, they are denied from friendship. The popular Aphrodite girl must stay with the other pretty popular kids. The unloved demigod must stay alone. That is the way it must be. Always interacting, never colliding.

If you asked me who was lovelier, I wouldn't be able to tell you. Their differences are what make them lovely, and being so different, there is not one lovelier than the other.

That is the way it should be. Always lovely, always interacting, always colliding.
